365 #31 'He Has Two Eyes''

Phewwww. Here it is...the last card of January! I love this project. It started out effortless, and has been really difficult some days. I like pushing through that, letting the cards be imperfect. Letting go of cards that I'm not crazy about. Letting go of cards that I Adore.
Moving on to February. I've been thinking of giving myself additional challenges each month. For instance, February's cards could all have a Love theme. Perhaps each card in March will include a haiku. Or April could be animal appreciation month. Make my own envelope month, Futuristic month, Twist Tie month, Material month, hand sewn card month, huge card month, pop up card month, very tiny card month, edible card month, monkey's are amazing card month....
I'll have to think about it. Any suggestions?

365 # 30 'She was dreaming of cats'

I always knew that my creative energy ebbed and waned through the course of each month. This project is making that more evident. But...here is today's card. Made a bit hastily but I still like it. Mew mew mew. And I know just who it's for.

365 # 29 'friendship is'

I can't believe it's January 29th already. Today is my dear sister's birthday! It's also the 7 year anniversary of my cat Nella's passing. Ohhhh, Nella, my true cat love. I was going to make her a card, but decided to make a little ode to friendship card instead.

365 # 28 Happy Birthday Beth!

This is for my big sister Bethy aka Beth. A little bunting to put anywhere:)

365 # 27 'red billed yellow bellied'

This barely got made. I switched up the order of the day and found that I am much more patient, creative, and inclined to make lovely things in the morning. The mod podge isn't quite dry, and the lighting is less than ideal, so I'll re-photograph it tomorrow morning and put better photos up then. But for now...here is the make believe bird that will live in my yard. It was meant to be the 'red-billed yellow-breasted pendulous tit-mouse', but I couldn't find the words 'breasted' or 'pendulous' and ran out of patience.

It has acquired thumb tack marks because it resides on my cork board now.

365 # 26 'Black Widow' and a canvas!

The text for this card came from an article about spiders found in Harper's Magazine cr 1878. The image is also from Harper's.
I made a canvas this morning too, which makes me happy. I've held on to the quote 'Pedgift Senior helped himself to a pinch of snuff, and held it calmly in suspense midway between his box and his nose.' for months now. I kept looking for the right image and finally found this fellow. He's not holding a snuff box, but his hand is 'held in suspense'. Close enough. He seemed rather alone, though, and I thought this lady would round out the image. Her 1/2 of the quote was originally from the same spider article as the quote from the card.

All it needs is another coat of mod-podge and a ribbon to hang it. Huzzah!

365 # 25 'Fresh and Voiceful Stillness'

Less than a week left in January!
This image comes from a book about French Postcards, the flowers are stock paper, and the text is from Harper's 1886. I also used glitter on it, huzzah!

The original text talks about her emergence from depression, and I loved it as a whole.
But the assembly process changes my original intent most of the time, and this was no exception.

365 # 24 'Spied for the Mothership'

This card is not for the paranoid. The images are from How To Make Good Pictures, 1943. The text is from Facts and Fancies, 1930

And, for the few who have asked about my 'studio'...here it is when it's not the kitchen table:). I have omitted the scrap strewn floor.

365 # 23 'Found Kittens'

It's not like I think senility is funny. Or trapping kitties in trunks until they're little ghost kitties. but I kinda think this is funny. Don't judge.

rain and art

It is warm and raining here today. I feel perfectly settled in to being productive, and creative, and cleaning house, and taking a walk, and taking new product photos for one or both of my etsy shops. But for now, I am here.
As the weather plays these little 'hints of spring' games, I am full of anticipation and some anxiety about the passing of time. I want so much to move from this little leaky space come spring. I want to look out of my windows at land and sky. I want my chicken wellies to have actual mud on them, and chicken poop. I want to create balance between creativity and labor. I am longing for these changes, and working hard on creating prosperity and abundance.
Enough with the electronics...I'm eager to get my hands on some paper. Carra gave me three more issues of Harper's and I made four new mini canvases. They're a little text-heavy because I love them that way.  I'll be editing a bit more for the next few, though. I think that if there is too much text people don't take the time to read them. And while I love them, I want them to go to other homes to live. Here are a few..

 Always dramatic.
 Ever tragic.
Ahhhh, the Victorians.

365 # 22 'The Heist'

I love this card. As soon as I saw the image, I knew the theme would be arrest-oriented.

Image and text are from Facts and Fancies 1930.

365 # 21 'Because There Is Sorrow'

I've decided that I'll no longer name the recipients of cards here on the blog. I think it lessens the happy surprise of receiving one.

This has been a week that held some sorrow, some grieving and folding in and self preservation. This is the card I made in response to it all.
Because there is sorrow...

There is also joy

365 # 20 'You Always Feel Near'

As I was playing with the idea for this card, Nik looked at it and said, 'why not put one on the outside, and one inside?'. Why not, indeed!! I love this card...for my brother Pat who is awfully far away.

I accidentally ripped his nose off during the delicate 'cutting out' portion of the card making. grr.

365 # 19 'Message In A Bottle'

A message in a bottle! The image of the Clipper Ship comes from a German language book from 1885. It affixed to the bottle with a little glue and a coat of mod-podge. I used airmail paper for the message.

365 # 18 'The Automobile'

The hardest part of this has been letting go of cards. I make it, I love it, and then I can't think of anyone who would want it. My sister gave me an A-ma-zing book from 1930 called Facts and Fancies. It's an educational book for Fourth graders, and I love it! The text and stories are fantastic. The paper is really delicate, though. More so than the Harper's from the 1800's.
Today's card comes from a cautionary tale entitled 'Safe Or Sorry'. It talks about how not to get hit by a car.

365 # 17 'Fancy Hat Jack'

Oh, do I like this one...a lot. I love the expressions on their faces. The image is from the book How to Make Good Pictures, 1943. The hat is from the same post card I used for Anandi's card (day 2). The text is from The Mother Tongue ,1900.
Text reads 'It's splendid in full color Jack! The pictures just don't do it justice.'

Leave a comment if you'd like to receive this card!

365 # 16 'A Good Goose'

Off to the Cappy's for birthday dinner and a canal walk w Jesse. But first, a quickie card. This one came together in less than 10 minutes. The image is from How To Make Good Pictures 1943. The text is from my favorite 1901 grammar guide, The Mother Tongue.

The text reads 'Mary loved a good goose'. This is going to my friend Jayme, because if she doesn't love getting a goose, I'm betting she loves to give one;)

366 Project(!) # 15 'a Diagram of How it Works'

It's a leap year! I'll still call it my 365 project, but will make 366 nonetheless.
This was a quickie, because I pretty much kept the existing text. My favorite thing about this is the pinhole I put where the pinhole belongs. The entire thing is from Harper's 1878.

365 # 14 'Kindness'

Rush rush rush. Aunt Flow and so much to do by 3:00...uuuhhhggghhhh. Here is the first day I really want to say, 'sorry project..no time for you'. But here it is...a thank you for my Chiropractor, who is kindness, generosity, and healing energy personified.

365 #13 'You Delight and Enchant Me'

This is the inside of a box of Detox Tea. I loved the pattern and color so I figured I'd use it to make a little card. As I cut away pieces of the box, this great shape emerged and I wanted to keep it. So here is a love card in 3-D. The inner paper is scrap, the bird and word 'Love' are from last year's calendar, and the text is from The Mother Tongue, copyright dates 1900-1901. Text reads 'you delight and enchant me'.
Leave a comment if you want this card to pass along to someone you love.

365 # 12 'Bingo' and new merchandise!!

Today's card is not the most creative I've made, though it does manage to be awfully cute. I got massively sidetracked this morning because I have created a new product for my etsy shop, and for the Buffalo Small Press Book Fair in March!! So, here is today's card...A Bingo card with little happy children spelling it out.

And here are my new babies... I love these..love love them. So much potential for variations! I made six this morning and they keep improving as I go.
